The Story
Huntsman Cancer Institute has developed specialized, internal software to help them care for the variety of unique needs that their clients have. The custom software in the pallative care department had done it’s job so well that it was starting to become slow and unstable under the strain of all the use. We were tasked with stabilizing the software and restructuring it so that it could grow for another 5 years.
The Solution
HCI’s problems were completely resolved by implementing best practices in their software.
90% of the problems were resovled with just 4 improvements:
- Restructuring the database
- Reevaluating database indexes and caching strategies
- Building a new, more performant, Data Access Layer
- Turning on safe compiler optimizations
