The Story
BSS prides itself in providing loans and deposit accounts for clients in rural areas who have limited options and poor connectivity. Due to the poor connectivity, BSS wasn’t able to use standard mobile solutions and contacted us to develop a custom mobile solution that fit their very specific use case. We always enjoy a fun project and happily accepted.
The Challenges
In order to get feedback sooner we deployed the project in a number of phases over a few years. The first phase was basic clerical functionality, the second phase was detailed/nuanced functionality to support edge-cases and the third phase was biometric and receipt printing functionality.
In order to support cheaper devices to lower the overall cost of the project and also to decrease the battery strain on the devices, we made the code on the device and on the servers highly optimized and “close to the metal”.
Outcome
The optimized code reduced device-cost by 30k/year and server-cost by 40k/year.
Significantly reduced instances of fraud and clerical errors.
The system had the unexpected benefit of drawing attention from potential customers and noticably increasing new client sign ups when the sysem was rolled out to new areas.
